Associate Teacher

Summary:  Assists the Lead Teacher in providing a quality educational, developmentally appropriate curriculum to meet the needs of each child, and establishes and maintains rapport with the children, their parents/guardians.

Responsibilities: The principle duties listed are not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties.

  • Assists in creating a secure and inviting environment that fosters exploration and discovery. Encourages children’s curiosity about the world and teaches problem solving. Establishes stimulating Learning Centers in the classroom.
  • Assists with planning and conducting daily activities including preparation of educational materials to meet the need of individual child and the developmental needs of the group.
  • Observes children and maintain anecdotal records regarding their growth, health, behavior and progress. Shares this information with parents and appropriate personnel.
  • Able to teach multi-aged children in the infant, toddler, and pre-school age-range.
  • Assists with parent-teacher conferences annually to keep parents informed of their child’s growth and development.
  • Guides, supervises and provides for safety of the children in class, the playground and field trips and is attentive to their needs.
  • Checks that children are properly dressed for outdoor activities.
  • Assists Lead Teacher in keeping a clean and orderly classroom at all times.
  • Performs other job-related duties requested by supervisor.
  • Assume Lead Teacher responsibilities in the Lead Teachers absence.

 Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree and one year of experience working with children.
  • Emotionally mature
  • Patience with and respect for children.
  • Capable and responsible to provide for the physical safety of active pre-school children in her/his care
  • Must pass and maintain physical condition necessary for examination, physical demand analysis

Requirements:

  • All as required by State of Indiana or NAEYC requirement
  • Must pass physical exam, TB and background tests as required by the State of Indiana.
  • Annual, first aid/CPR, child abuse/neglect and criminal background checks.
  • All job duties are expected to be completed in accord with the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Vincent Center for Children and Families.

Float Teacher

Summary:  Substitutes in classrooms in the absence of a lead or assistant teacher.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs the ordinary duties of the absent teacher.
  • Assumes the hours of the absent teacher, varying hours with various positions.
  • Helps create a secure environment that invites learning through exploration and discovery.
  • Moves when and where needed.
  • Able to teach multi-aged children in the infant, toddler, and pre-school age-range
  • Works cooperatively, as a team, with the other teachers.
  • Guides, supervises, and provides for the safety of the children in the classroom, the playground and on field trips.
  • Performs other job-related duties when requested by the supervisor.
  • Maintains confidentiality both verbal & written; avoids gossip.

 Qualifications:

  • High School diploma, CDA
  • One-year of experience working directly with young children
  • Emotionally mature
  • Patience with and respect for children
  • Ability to be flexible

Requirements:

  • All as required by State of Indiana or NAEYC requirement
  • Must pass bi-annual physical exam, TB and background tests as required by the State of Indiana.
  • Annual, first aid/CPR, child abuse/neglect and criminal background checks, and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • All job duties are expected to be completed in accord with the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Vincent Center for Children and Families.
